Fishing Opportunities

If it is moving water you prefer there are the fabled rivers, Kennebago, Rapid, Cupsuptic, the Big and Little Magalloway.

As for lake or pond fishing the posibilities are unlimited. Rangeley, Mooselookmeguntic, Upper & Lower Richardsons, Aziscohos, and Umbagog Lakes to name a few. There is B Pond, Quimby, Big and Little Kennebago, if it is smaller waters you seek. The list is endless all within easy access of us.

The above lakes, ponds, and rivers are the headwaters of the Androscoggin River, from the Abnaki meaning, "Fish coming in the spring". It is more than one-hundred and twenty miles long from its' begining to the sea. The upper river above Rumford is a better trout fishery than the lower. Best time to fish is late May through June. The Androscoggin is easily fished from canoe or boat which can be launched at Gilead, Bethel, Newry, Hanover, or Rumford; all these sights are in close proximity to the Blue Iris.

When water temps get above seventy degrees it is best to fish at the mouth of the tribibutaries. Wild, Sunday, Bear, and the Ellis Rivers are great bets at dusk and dawn.

Down river from Rumford might be the best bass river in Maine. From Dixfield to Lisbon Falls, there exists a smallmouth bass fishery that is absolutely spectacular. Brook trout and brown trout are also stocked in this section, just an added bonus.

As you can see the Blue Iris can be your jumping off spot for some of the finest fishing you may ever encounter. Why don't you give it a try?
